Privacy policy

Your notes stay on your device. LiteNotepad doesn’t have accounts, and it doesn’t receive or store the text you write. The site does use Google Analytics to count visits, and this page explains what that collects and how to turn it off.
What stays on your device
LiteNotepad stores the following in your browser’s local storage, on the device you’re using. None of it is sent to LiteNotepad or to anyone else.
- Your notes: their text, titles, list previews and timestamps.
- Snapshots you save, and the previous version kept after you clear or replace a note.
- Your preferences: theme, font, text size, focus mode, recently used symbols and a running writing timer.
- A copy of the page’s files in your browser’s cache, so the notepad opens offline.
LiteNotepad’s code doesn’t send note text, titles, search terms or file names to any server, including Google Analytics. The page’s security policy allows its scripts to connect only to Google’s analytics addresses, so they can’t send anything to other sites.
What the site receives
Hosting
The site is hosted on Cloudflare. Like any web host, it handles each request for a page or file, which includes your IP address and browser details, and it may keep standard server logs. Fonts and scripts are served from litenotepad.com, not from a third party.
Google Analytics
LiteNotepad uses Google Analytics 4 to see how many people visit and which pages they open. When a page loads, Google receives:
- the page address and the page you came from;
- your browser, operating system, screen size and language;
- an approximate location, worked out from your IP address;
- a random identifier stored in a cookie, which links your visits together;
- standard automatic events, such as scrolling and clicks on links that leave the site.
Google signals and ad personalisation are switched off, so this data isn’t used to show you ads. Google processes it under its own privacy policy.
There is no cookie banner on LiteNotepad yet. Analytics starts when the page loads, so if you would rather not take part, use one of the options below.
Cookies
LiteNotepad sets no cookies of its own. Google Analytics sets two on litenotepad.com: _ga and a second
one that starts with _ga_. They hold the random identifier and session details, and they expire after
two years by default.
Opting out of analytics
- Install Google’s Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
- Use a content blocker or a browser with tracking protection, which stops the analytics script from loading.
- Delete the
_gacookies in your browser settings to reset your identifier.
The notepad works the same with analytics blocked.
Keeping your notes safe
Browser storage isn’t encrypted. Anyone who can use your browser profile can open LiteNotepad and read your notes, so don’t keep passwords or other secrets in it. Clearing this site’s data deletes your notes, and Download backup in the More menu saves a copy. If you use a shared computer, delete your notes before you leave.
Your choices and questions
You control your notes: delete one in the notes list, or clear all site data for litenotepad.com in your browser. LiteNotepad holds no copy to remove. For questions about analytics data, or to ask what has been collected, email hello@litenotepad.com.
Changes to this policy
If LiteNotepad starts collecting something new, this page is updated first and the date at the top changes.
