About LiteNotepad

LiteNotepad is a free online notepad. You open the page, type, and the note is kept in your browser. There is no account to make, nothing to install and no save button to remember.

Why it exists

Most of what people write down is short-lived: a shopping list, the numbers from a phone call, a draft of a message you haven’t sent yet. Notes apps ask you to sign in, pick a notebook and wait for a sync before you can write that down. LiteNotepad starts with a blank page that is ready to type in, and keeps what you wrote for next time.

What it does

  • Saves each note in your browser a moment after you stop typing, and again when you switch notes or close the tab.
  • Keeps as many notes as you like in a searchable list, each with an optional title.
  • Formats text with bold, italic, underline, strikethrough and lists.
  • Counts words and characters, and finds and replaces text.
  • Copies, prints, or downloads a note as .txt, .md, .html or PDF.
  • Keeps working offline after your first visit.

What it leaves out on purpose

Your notes live on the device and in the browser where you wrote them. That means no sync between your phone and your computer, and no way to recover a note if you clear your browser’s site data. In return, nobody else holds a copy of your text. LiteNotepad has no accounts and no server-side storage for notes.

Formatting stops at bold, italic, underline, strikethrough and lists. There are no headings, fonts, colours or links, and Markdown is not rendered as you type. A notepad that does less is quicker to open and harder to get lost in.

How the site is run

LiteNotepad is free to use and shows no ads. The page is a small, static site hosted on Cloudflare. The only third-party service it loads is Google Analytics, which counts visits and never receives your notes. The privacy page lists exactly what is stored and what is collected.
